Wendy's Walk

The Wendy O. Ward Foundation was founded in 2014.  As one of its primary missions, the Foundation and its volunteers will plan and coordinate a yearly charitable event called “Wendy’s Walk” in memory of Wendy.  The purpose of the event is to gather in Wendy’s memory and celebrate her life, especially for her two kids, Caroline and Jack, now ages 8 and 6.  Wendy was a person who touched so many lives with her love, laughter and energy.  With her life cut short, Wendy deserves to be celebrated and Jack and Caroline deserve to see firsthand the impact their mommy had on so many lives.

Wendy’s Walk 2020 and 2021Went Virtual

We were not able to gather together in-person due to Covid-19, but so many people participated in the Virtual Wendy’s Walk and were still generous with their giving. The Foundation still raised $11,000 in both 2020 and 2021! Thank you to all the family, friends and corporate friends who still reached out and helped this Foundation and the scholarship recipients during a very difficult year.

Next year’s Wendy’s Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2022 once again at the Whetstone Shelterhouse at the Park of Roses. We are hopeful to gather but again will only do so if it is safe for family and friends to come together. For the first time, Wendy’s Walk will be an evening event, starting time TBA.  The Foundation hopes to invite and welcome the next recipient of the Wendy O. Ward Foundation Memorial Scholarship at this year’s Wendy’s Walk to officially receive the scholarship award and learn about Wendy’s life and impact.  Please bookmark this site and return for more information regarding Wendy’s Walk 2022.

Wendy’s Walk 2019 - - Another Great Success!

Friends, family and more gathered together again at the fourth annual Wendy’s Walk which took place on June 30, 2019 at the Columbus Park of Roses.  Over 200 people attended and participated in the event the included music, games, crafts, cupcakes and a walk around the beautiful Park of Roses together in memory of Wendy.  Donations from individuals and corporations before, at and after the event reached almost $15,000!  The Foundation is grateful to all those who came out to Wendy’s Walk and especially all those who helped make the event possible and such a success.

At Wendy’s Walk, kids and adults alike enjoyed custom-made donuts from The Little Donut Shop (special thanks to Joyce Ward for making this possible).  Also, Bill Jelinek Photography again graciously donated photography services at the Walk and captures some amazing moments.  Bill’s photos are available to view here (link to gallery) on the Foundation’s website as well as on the Facebook page.  Please consider Bill Jelinek Photography for your family and event photography!  http://billjelinekphotography.zenfolio.com/

The attendees at the Walk were lucky to be introduced to and meet both Ben Phillips and Courtney Blau, the 2019 awardees of the Wendy O. Ward Foundation Memorial Scholarship.  Ben, Courtney and past recipients Morgan, Joseph and Meghan and their families joined and participated in the Walk to honor Wendy.

Several companies join again in donating to the Foundation and Wendy’s Walk - through monetary or in-kind contributions - making the event possible.  Wendy’s Walk 2019 contributors included Stand Energy Corporation, Optic Nerve Polaris, Altenau Financial Services, Luckett Communication Papers, Farmwell Seeds LLC, Lindsay Bartow, LLC, the GE Foundation, Battelle Memorial Institute, and the Cardinal Health Foundation.  Special thanks to Andy Limbert and Resonant Interactive for the continued generous in-kind web and technical services.  Additional special thanks to the St. Brendan School teachers and school community, and to the Limbert and Rowland families and the Foundation’s Scholarship Selection Committee.

All contributions received have and will be used for the costs of the 2019 Wendy’s Walk, the costs of future Wendy’s Walk events and most importantly toward the establishment of the annual Wendy O. Ward Memorial Scholarship.
